Teatro Verdi

Teatro Verdi

Overlooking Via Sansovino, Teatro Verdi is one of the most evocative cultural venues in Monte San Savino.

With 230 seats, the theater features the classic horseshoe shape of Italian-style theaters, with a stalls area and 37 boxes arranged on three tiers, refined decorations, and a large central chandelier. Above the stage stand the municipal coat of arms and the auditorium clock.

The theater’s origins date back to the 17th century, when the Academies of the Sostenuti and Rozzi staged early performances in an old granary near the Oratory of the Bianchi. After several expansions and restorations, the building became a permanent theater in 1777. In 1870 it incorporated the oratory and was dedicated to sculptor Andrea Sansovino, before assuming its current name, Teatro Verdi, in 1901.

Today, municipally owned, the theater has once again become a focal point of the city’s cultural life, where history and performance meet in a refined and welcoming atmosphere.
