Museum of Remembrance

Located in the first room on the left on the ground floor of Palazzo Di Monte, the Museum of Remembrance has been the local seat of the National Association of War Veterans since 1932, an organization founded after the First World War.

Conceived as a place of memory and tribute to the 178 soldiers from Monte San Savino who fell during the Great War—commemorated by a wooden monument carved in 1934 by Ovidio Grigò—the museum has gradually expanded to include memorabilia and documents from the Risorgimento and colonial wars, as well as from the Second World War.

Among the most noteworthy items are the postcards collected by Maria Pomaranzi, an elementary school teacher from Monte San Savino who, during the First World War, maintained an extensive correspondence with soldiers at the front as a “war godmother.”
