Casa del Sansovino

Located at No. 36 on Via Sansovino, this is a three-storey building — the top floor may be the 1515 addition carried out by the same artist — featuring a prominent rusticated stone portal with a lowered arch and six windows on the upper floors. The windows of the piano nobile are distinguished by a volute at the center of the architrave.

The plaque placed above the portal in 1881 bears the following inscription:

Here lived Andrea Contucci, known as “Il Sansovino”, a celebrated architect and sculptor, born in Poggiolo near Monte San Savino and who died in this district in 1529.
