Church of Sant’Agostino
Built in the 14th century by the Augustinian order on the site of the ancient church of Saints James and Christopher, the Church of Sant’Agostino is one of the architectural gems of the town. Its simple and harmonious stone façade features an elegant Gothic portal and a precious stained-glass window dated 1524 depicting Saint Augustine between two angels, attributed to the workshop of Guillaume de Marcillat.
The interior, enlarged in the 16th century with the intervention of Sansovino, preserves the elegant choir screen and the cloister, bearing witness to its great Renaissance splendor. In the 18th century, the church was raised and enriched with eight stucco altars, giving it its present appearance.
Today, at the center of the high altar, visitors can admire the magnificent Assumption of the Virgin (1539) by Giorgio Vasari, a masterpiece that makes this church an unmissable stop for lovers of art, history, and spirituality.
