A scenic itinerary following the ancient paths once traveled by pilgrims, from Asciano in the heart of the Crete Senesi to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Vertighe in Valdichiana.

According to the account of a 16th-century Camaldolese monk, as early as the 12th century a chapel miraculously moved from the Crete Senesi to rest on the hill where the sanctuary now stands. Since then, every July 7, this miracle became a reason for pilgrimage for the communities of the two valleys, who undertook the journey to pay homage to the sacred event. This tradition remained alive until the post-World War II period.
