Il Cassero Museo

Il CaM

Today, the Cassero houses the Monte San Savino town museum (CAM), where the main section of the museum route tells the story of the local ceramic production, the crown jewel of this medieval village.

The collections include a rich array of ceramics divided into three sections: terracotta items for domestic and agricultural use linked to the local cultural traditions (17th–19th centuries); late medieval ceramic forms (15th century), among which are some artifacts unearthed during the restoration of the Cassero in the 1980s; and, finally, works from Savinese workshops that are still active today.

Two rooms house a significant group of paintings from the Venerabile Confraternita della Misericordia and sculptures from various periods, including the particularly notable sandstone Marzocco from the 16th century, originally located in the Palazzo Pretorio, a symbol of Florentine dominion. There is also an Etruscan-Roman archaeological section with artifacts discovered in the Val di Chiana.

The exhibition route is completed by the sacred art section, featuring liturgical objects from the 16th to the 18th centuries originating from the Church of Sant’Agostino.
