Zulimo Aretini

Zulimo Aretini

Zulimo Aretini (1884–1965), born in Monte San Savino, was an Italian ceramic artist and sculptor known for his contribution to the revival of the sgraffito technique, characteristic of 16th-century Umbrian ceramics. Trained in his family workshop, he refined his skills through collaborations with renowned manufacturers such as the Fornaci di San Lorenzo of Galileo Chini and the Richard-Ginori factory in Sesto Fiorentino.

In 1925, he founded the Antica Bottega del Ceramista in Arezzo, promoting a revival of polychrome majolica inspired by medieval and Renaissance decorative traditions. His hand-painted plates and vases were exhibited in national and international exhibitions, earning acclaim for their artistic and technical excellence.

Today, his works are highly valued by collectors and ceramic enthusiasts, standing as a testament to the craftsmanship and creative excellence of the Tuscan ceramic tradition. A series of his original sketches is preserved at the Cassero Museum.
