Pope Julius III
Papa Giulio III

Pope Julius III (1487–1555), born Giovanni Maria Ciocchi del Monte in 1487, reigned as Pope from 1550 to 1555. During his pontificate, he promoted the reform of the Church, the resumption of the Council of Trent, and numerous artistic projects, including the decoration of the Vatican Palaces and Villa Giulia, the construction of new churches, and the completion of Palazzo Di Monte in his native Monte San Savino.

Originally from Monte San Savino, Julius III is also remembered for his patronage of the arts and culture, reinforcing the town’s enduring connection with major figures of the Italian Renaissance.
