The Night of Count Baldwin
Since 1997 this evocative historical re-enactment takes place every last Saturday of June in memory of the appointment of Baldovino Ciocchi Del Monte, brother of Pope Julius III, to Count of Monte San Savino by Cosimo I de’ Medici in 1550.
Celebrated with a rich historical procession and public celebrations to remember one of the most significant pages of Savinese history, it is preceded by a week of picturesque games (including the “pallone grosso”, an ancient game similar to the ball very popular in many Italian cities in the past centuries) in which the four historic districts of the village (Jalta, Castiglia, Porticciolo and San Giovanni) compete.
